We spent 36 days in India, starting with 4 days in Mumbai, followed by 4 in Kochi, 4 in Munnar, 6 in Alleppey, 14 in Palolem (in the state of Goa), and finishing with 4 in Delhi. We generally preferred Southern India and Goa and found that we moved a bit too quickly. With the benefit of hindsight, I would cut out Alleppey and Delhi to reduce the amount of travel days.
9 favorite things about India
- Palolem – walking on the beach, swimming, Silent Noise Party, dinner & a movie. Our favorite place in India
- Munnar – staying in the mountainous countryside surrounded by cardamom & tea farms and lots of beautiful birds!
- Masala chai and mango lassis
- Indian curries, Thali lunches, masala dosa – we can’t get enough! We’re looking forward to making palak/saag paneer, mushroom masala, and chapati on our own in the future.
- Fort Kochi
- Marine Drive in Mumbai
- Walking across Old Delhi (only if mentally prepared)
- Body surfing waves in Goa
- Overnight train
