This past month we spent most of our time back at home in Virginia, staying and visiting with friends and family. We also had a lot to do before leaving, donating and storing items and getting the logistics for a year of travel all sorted. We ended up being way more busy than expected for all of January.
Toward the end of the month we left to travel through South East Asia, starting in Bangkok, Thailand!

So the final tally comes out to: $137/day ($73/day excluding one-time pre-trip expenses)
We spent a lot of time with family in January (thanks again!). The pre-trip expenses consisted of travel vaccinations ($972), travel equipment/toys ($309), and travel clothing ($707). We used 80,000 miles for two one-way tickets to Bangkok. Our total transportation cost to get to Bangkok, then to Chiang Mai, was $76.
