Nashville, TN

So our first stop out west was in Nashville, TN. After spending 9 hours in the car to get there, we were ready for a walk about. So we strolled through Centennial Park. It was perfect weather and there were a bunch of people out enjoying the park. Oh, and it has a replica of the Parthenon… which was a bit random.
One of the first things we did was walking the Greenway, along the river. 0/10 would not recommend, there was a definite lack of green on the Greenway. After a homeless man with a handle of liquor jumped out of the bushes in front of us, we then strolled through the middle of a corrections facility…wasn’t what we were expecting from a greenway. Wasn’t a great way to start the day.
But we carried on and happened on a little farmers market in the park at the end of the Greenway, which smelled strongly of popcorn. With our appetites peaked, we made our way to get hot chicken at Hattie B’s. We each got half a chicken (mistake #1) and medium and hot sauce (mistake #2). After consuming our body weight in delicious chicken, we waddled to the library. The library was a beautiful three level marble building with reading and working areas, even a courtyard! The library ended up being a highlight for us.The following morning, we did a bike ride at Shelby Bottom Park, a park along the Cumberland river flood plain, so that was pretty neat.

In the evenings, we went and got dinner and hear live music at honky tonks along Broadway – this was definitely a high point of the trip – live musics was everywhere along these 2-3 blocks of downtown! This is definitely where we saw the most amount of people, it was otherwise a pretty quiet city. We especially enjoyed the roof tops since the weather was so nice.

Overall, we thought Nashville was meh.

Highlights of Nashville, TN

  • All the live music at the honky tonks! Literally every single place had live music.
  • The public library. Cheap(ish) parking, magnificent building, great wifi workspace
