Palolem Cooking Class

Indian food is easily our favorite cuisine, so we decided to take a cooking class. I previously thought that Indian curries were something that simmered for hours; I was wrong. During the 3 hour class, we made chapati, saag paneer, mushroom masala, chicken tangdi and dal. We can’t wait to add saag paneer and masalas to our cooking repertoire after our travels!

We took kayaks out and around Monkey Island one day. We lucked out with the tides and were able to take a shortcut back that’s only possible near high tide.

Our typical day started with this breakfast on the beach (to the point where the staff knew our order when we walked up). We also became semi-regulars at a restaurant that played a different movie every night. Bit nostalgic looking back on it at this point. Low tide happened to be in the mornings and evenings, so there was a nice big beach for walking during the coolest times of the day.

Heard some little ‘ruffs’ and turned around to find these puppies and their mom. There are 6 or 7 dog gangs that have split up the beach. There’s a little scuffle every time a rival dog strays into foreign territory but they’re very nice to the tourists. They don’t seem to like the panhandlers as much, which is fine by me.

There are plenty of cows everywhere in India, and the beach isn’t an exception. Almost tripped over three of them laying on the ground the other day.

Our last few days in Palolem were spent swimming at least an hour per day and enjoying the laid back atmosphere, which is a real treat in India.

Highlights of our last week in Palolem:

  • Cooking class, particularly Saag Paneer
  • Movie, dinner and drinks at Rock It cafe right off the beach
  • Breakfast followed by morning walks on the beach

I love all the pics of food, have I mentioned that before? As a photo food critic, I’d say the photos start vibrant and floral with a zesty punch and a kick of freshness with a smooth chef Andy finish. I really hope Andy got to keep that hat and apron…

Other comments: cute puppy, although I hope it gets out of the gang life.

Haha, glad you’re enjoying the food pics. It’s hard to limit the amount of them we post since Indian food is so great.
