Blue Mountains and Sydney

We decided to stop off at the Blue Mountains before going to Sydney. We managed to get a bunch of nice walks in. Our first was along the cliff by the Three Sisters rock formation. Steep and windy and beautiful!

We also hiked the Grand Canyon walk (of no relation). This was one of our favorites in Australia! As we descended and ascended into and out of the canyon, the environment changed drastically, from dry eucalyptus forest to jungley fern tree gullies. It was awesome.

After the Blue Mountains, we stayed at a National Park campground within Sydney (how awesome is that!?). Our first stop was the zoo, just to make sure that some of these animals actually did exist, since we haven’t seen them yet in the wild. Also, we finally saw a koala that was awake! They’re like little Einstein Yodas. May the Theoretical force be Relatively with you… (I just cringed inside).

This bird has an actual name that I can’t remember, but I call it Trump Pheasant, due to the resemblance.

Startled by the shaking pelican.

Quokkas!

They fed the otters while we watched. We could have spent all day in this spot.

Unfortunately, this otter had enough of us. We left a little intimidated.

Proof of life GIF of this Koala.

We took the light train into downtown Sydney, where we spent awhile exploring the botanic gardens. After that, we decided to take the ferries to Cockatoo Island and then to Manly beach. The public transportation system here is absolutely top-notch.

Cockatoo Island was a bit desolate.

Priscilla somehow lives with this handsome devil every day.

Highlights of Blue Mountains and Sydney

  • The Grand Canyon trail in Blue Mountains
  • The Sydney transit system (max $15.40 AUD per day for all the ferries, buses and trains you can handle)
  • Weather. This is their winter!? It was such a beautiful day
  • Watched the lunar eclipse from our campground!
