Southeast Coast and Wilsons Promontory

We drove south from Sydney along the coastline. We were trying to get all the way to the southeast corner of Australia, but decided to call it a night in Eden. The next day, we continued on to Marlo, where we walked the Snowy River Estuary before staying the night in Orbost. The trail led to the coastline, which was totally abandoned. It seems to us that there are two primary defining features of Australia. First is Eucalyptus forests and second is beaches. Australia has these two things absolutely everywhere. Here’s just a normal road, lined with (what else), Eucalpyt trees.

We continued on to Wilsons Promontory National Park, which is a peninsula that sticks out just southeast of Melbourne. We loved it. Victoria is the most beautiful part of the country, in my opinion, and Wilsons Promontory is a big reason why. We saw amazing coastlines, tons of wildlife, Eucalyptus (of course) forests, beaches (of course) and incredible views.

Our two favorite trails where the Darby Saddle to Tongue Point and Mount Oberon.

Everywhere we went in the park, there were wild animals. During our relatively short time, we spotted tons of wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, and even emus!

We stayed at the Yanakie Caravan Park, looking out over Corner Inlet, which was beautiful and empty this time of year. We would definitely stay there again!

Highlights of Southeast Australia and Wilsons Promontory:

  • Wombats in Wilsons Promontory. Cutiest every!
  • Mount Oberon hike, with amazing views.
  • Tongue Point. It was incredibly windy and the waves were crashing; it felt like another world
