This past month we spent a lot of time on the west coast and ended in Texas. We spent this whole month in the southwest and a significant portion in cities, which is a bit different from September or October.
What did it cost us to do a one month road trip in the American southwest?
Category | Spending |
---|---|
Transportation | $487 |
Food | $1,386 |
Lodging | $1,462 |
Healthcare | $68 |
Shopping & Activities | $280 |
Total | $3,681 |
So the final tally comes out to: $123 / day
Our healthcare expense went down dramatically this month. We were previously on a Obamacare Bronze plan. However, the insurer decided to no longer offer plans in Virginia. Obamacare-compliant insurance can lapse for up to 3 consecutive months without paying the mandate penalty, so we opted to just use short-term catastrophic insurance through the rest of 2017 (not ACA compliant).
