Pawtuckaway State Park

We camped for three nights on Pawtuckaway Lake in New Hampshire.

Very happy we brought our extra fluffy comforter to stay warm in the 40 degree night – brr! Not quite accustomed to New England fall nights yet.

We had beautiful weather for the first full day so hiked the 7 mile South Mountain loop then took our inflatable SUP out on the lake. The view from South Mountain was forest for as far as the eye could see! Very different from the typical mountain view in Virginia where the forest is broken up by lots of pasture land and occasional buildings.

Exhausted from our activities, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the lake, with the eerie sound of loons calling in the background.

Our second day was rainy so after a short walk around Burnham’s Marsh (sadly no moose sighting, but we’re still hoping) and getting our campsite ready for the rain we visited the Smuttynose brewery for a tasting and tour of their LEED gold certified brewery 🙂 then explored the town of Portsmouth, NH where we ate at the Soupery and visited Portsmouth Brewery, where we filled our growler.

    • Beer tasting certainly improved our mood on a rainy day, haha 🙂
